Concussions in Hockey

On April 14th at 7 p.m., we will be hosting an information session concerning concussions in hockey and we would love to have as many coaches, players, parents, trainers, officials, and directors as possible attend.

Our fundraiser includes an event at barneys this coming friday March18th! A dance featuring local band Papa String featuring Chris Feener. Barneys will be donating admission proceeds to our team. Tickets can be purchased at barneys in advance for $10.

The Central NL AAA PeeWee tryouts

Hockey NL is pleased to announce the first two members of the coaching staff for the Central NL AAA PeeWee team for 2010-2011.

Dexter Fewer, coach with Exploits Minor Hockey has been appointed head coach.

Juan Gill, coach with Glovertown Minor Hockey has been appointed manager.

Cost $60.00 for the two weekends and all players are guaranteed 6 hours of ice time, 3 hours for each weekend. Each weekend will consist of one 1.5 hour practice and 1 refereed game.

Registration will begin at 9:00 am in Glovertown Gardens on November 6, 2010.

After these two weekends selected players will be invited back to a third weekend which will take place on November 20/21. This session will take place in Lewisporte's Arena.

Please be advised that October 8th is the deadline for rep team coach and player applications.

We are now accepting applications from players wishing to be considered in the tryout process for Rep Teams. It is extremely important if a player wishes to be considered that we receive an application on or before October 8, 2010. Only players having completed these forms will be considered during the selection process for a Rep Team. Also, please take the time to familiarize yourself with the New Rep Team Policies and Procedures.

Registration Fees 2009-2010

 NOTES:
*First time skaters will pay the HNL insurance fee plus a survey fee of $25.00. The survey fee will be refunded when the survey is completed and returned to the Association at the end of the season. If the survey is not completed than that child will be charged the full registration!
 

For Families with more than one child, the fees shall be calculated in the following manner:
The oldest child shall be selected as the first child to be registered and will be charged the full registration fee, plus the full HNL insurance fee. Each subsequent child will be charged half the registration fee, plus the full HNL insurance fee.
 

Females wishing to participate in both the female division and an alternate division will be charged the full fees of the alternate division only.

Bantam C Easter Provincial Tournament April 8-10

As an Association we have the honor of hosting the Bantam C Provincial Tournament during Easter Week. Our Bantam A team is the host of this tournament. As an Association we are responsible for offering the option of Billets for teams that are coming into our community for this event. Recently, the minor hockey room at the Joe Byrne Stadium was cleaned out. The room had an excessive amount of second hand hockey gear that no one was using anymore. It was decided by the executive to donate this used gear, as well as any gear that people wanted to donate, to an association in Nain, Labrador.
The members of the executive of the Exploits Valley Minor Hockey Association would like to say a big THANK YOU to the following:
· Erika Stockley of Provincial Airlines who flew the gear, free of charge, to Goose Bay.
· Constable Scott Evans of the RCMP
· Gene Crant for the use of his vehicle to transport the gear to Deer Lake
· Everyone who donated Items to this worthy cause.
· And a very special thank you to Rod Bennett who’s initiative made the whole thing possible.

Exploits PeeWee A Cataracts captured Gold at the HNL Provincials in Kelligrews

The Exploits Pee Wee A Cataracts captured Gold at the HNL Pee Wee "C"  Tournament held in Kelligrews from April 13-16, 2009. It was an exciting finish with Exploits defeating the host team CBR Renegades 3-1, with an empty net goal with 19 seconds remaining in regulation time. Congratulations to our Pee Wee A team for bringing home the Gold.

Exploits Atom A Cataracts wins bronze

The Exploits Atom A Cataracts took home the  bronze medal this weekend in Clarenville. The team had 2 wins and a tie ( 3-2, 2-0 and 1-1) before winning the bronze medal game over the Harbour Grace CeeBee's 7-0.

Exploits Midgets Cataracts Win Gold

The Midgets won the Gold medal in the Midget Intertown tournament going 5 and 0. They took the gold medal by beating out Bishop's Falls, Botwood, Twillingate and Wesleyville in the round robin and then beating Twillingate again 6-2 in the championship game. Congratulations Guys!!!!

Exploits PeeWee A Cataracts wins Gold

Exploits Pee Wee A Cataracts  defeated Lewisporte Seahawks 4-3 to win the Jack Curlew Memorial Pee Wee Tournament in Lewisporte over the weekend. The Cataracts went undefeated at 4-0 as did the Lewisporte, in round robin play.  Strong goaltending from Kyle Alaverdy and Tyler Whiffen along with a team scoring effort lead the cataracts to the gold medal game. In a close final game, Exploits held off a surging Lewisporte team to take the victory.  Tyler Whiifen had the win in nets for the Cataracts.  Scoring for the Cataracts in the gold medal game was Jeremy Baggs, Davin Hillier,  and Andrew Ricketts(2).


Exploits PeeWee A Cataracts wins silver

Exploits Pee Wee Cataracts teams hosted the Bren Fitzgerald Memorial Tournament on Feb 13-13, 2009. In the 17 team tournament, Exploits Pee Wee A team went 4-0 and met St.John's Caps B in the Division 1 Finals. The game ended in a 1-1 tie leading to a 5 minute overtime which settled nothing. A three player shootout resulted in a win by the Caps.

New Name And Identity For Rep Teams

Teams representing the Exploits Valley Minor Hockey Association in rep team play this season will be known as the Exploits Valley Cataracts. The decision to adopt the name change was made at the Annual General Meeting of the Association in May. In addition, as uniforms are replaced, the new name will be accompanied by new colours and logos. This move is being made to to extend the identity of the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts of the Senior Hockey League throughout the hockey system including EVMHA.  Many other minor hockey association's rep teams already play under the name of the senior team of their community such as the Royals of Corner Brook and the Caps of St. John's.
