Central Female Hockey Team Takes the Bronze Medal at the Winter Games Hockey Playoffs in Deer Lake - Humber Valley

    The Central Female Hockey Team came up with the bronze medal at the 2006 Newfoundland and Labrador Winter Games February 26 - March 4, in Deer Lake - Humber Valley. Central scored in overtime to register a 3-2 win over Labrador in the bronze medal matchup. The Central team was comprised of female hockey players 15-18 years old from thoughout Central Newfoundland, including Exploits Valley. The gold medal was won by Avalon, defeating St. John's North 4-2 in the championship game.

     In the Male Division, Mount Pearl South captured the gold medal, Western took silver and Avalon the bronze.  Gander represented Central Newfoundland and finished with a record of 2 wins and 2 losses. The Gander team was the winner of a playdown against Exploits Valley Pee Wee "A", Lewisporte Pee Wee "A" and Wesleyville Beothic Pee Wees in Gander in January.
